Atenas Part 2 – A day at Playa Hermosa

Before our house sit was up we thought it would have been rude not to do the hour drive to the coast, to some of the world’s most famous surfing beaches. We checked out Jaco beach, the beginners beach, and watched a cheer leading competition – the perfect Sunday afternoon activity. Then rode further down the coast to Playa Hermosa, a black sand beach with some epic waves. Gaz was pretty peeved he couldn’t rent a board and get stuck in, but with the promise of some good surfing in our next destination he managed to suck it up and just enjoy the scenery.

We also thought it was about time we checked out some of the local restaurants, so we went to a nice little cafe/restaurant in Atenas called Cafe Cultura , and although the setting left a lot to be desired, the food was amazing and really good prices for Costa Rica. Also check out the cafe on the other side of the park, it’s brand new and has fake grass on the floor so you can miss it, great bruschetta and ice cream for dessert!
