Camping & Surfing in Portugal…

As most of our readers know, Gaz and I, love to surf. We spent last winter surfing everyday in Canggu, Bali and Siargao in the Philippines, this year we haven’t been quite so lucky but all hope is not lost! After doing a bit of research I realised we can have the same kind of experience if we look a little closer to home.

Portugal has a number of amazing surf spots and with an average temperature of 24 degrees, we can’t complain! This balmy summer weather isn’t just great for surfing, it’s also great for camping. And with Portugal’s pituresque coastline, what better way to wake up than to a view like this…

For the ultimate sun, sea and surf holiday, head to the Algarve in Southern Portugal. The award winning Turiscampo campsite by Yelloh! is close to Lagos aka ‘The Town Of Explorers’ and can offer everything you need for the perfect surf holiday.

The Algarve has been every foreigner’s favourite slice of Portugal for decades now and surfers are no exception. It might lack some of the wave quality of Peniche and Ericeira, but the laid back country vibe more than makes up for that, attracting ever increasing numbers of foreign surfers escaping from the icy winters of northern Europe.

Being on the corner of the Iberian Peninsula means the Algarve has the widest swell window in the country and regular offshores on the south coast. SE wind swells can get these usually flat beaches pumping, while big winter nor’westers will wrap into the coves beyond Sagres.

If surfing’s not your thing, the campsite offers a ton of other activities from yoga, pilates, massages and other beauty treatments or head off site for a round of golf, historical tour around Lagos or a spot of sunbathing in one of the stunning isolated coves. It’s open all year round, so why not miss the crowds and jet off in May or September?! See you there?

    Awesome photos!

I haven’t been to Portugal but the Philippines is truly a nice place! You should try the Bicol region the next time you’re in the Philippines!

Portugal is one of my favorite places to surf. In my next surf trip plan to meet Algarve and do a surf camp. Congratulations on your photos!
