Discover Berlin’s Nightlife with This Short Guide

Germany might not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of countries famous for their vibrant nightlife. Perhaps you’re more likely to think of somewhere people are known for their passion and fiery natures, such as Spain or Italy. But Berlin is often heralded as one of the best cities in Europe for anyone who enjoys a good night out. It doesn’t matter if you want to sit in a sophisticated bar sipping cocktails or dance the night away at a club. You can have an incredible time in Berlin. Check out some of these recommendations to make sure you have a great time when you visit.

Perhaps Germany wouldn’t typically be on anyone’s top five list of culinary countries. If you do think of German food, you probably picture sausages, pretzels and lots of beer to accompany it. However, Berlin has a thriving restaurant scene. It has both traditional Germanic fair and eclectic international cuisine. If you’re looking for Michelin-starred eating, you need to head to Tim Raue or  Les Solistes. There is a total of 15 establishments with a star or two in Berlin. When you’re looking for something cheaper, the best way to discover something good is just to start walking. You never know what you’ll stumble upon.

Bars and Pubs

A lot of people love to start their evening off in a bar or pub, and often end the night there too. In fact, the best way to spend an evening is surely in the hotel bar, so you can stumble straight to bed afterwards. Secure yourself a deal on at somewhere like NH Berlin Mitte for a stay with a stylish bar. If you’re ready to venture out of the hotel, you can find classy cocktails or trendy craft beer pubs. Just like with restaurants, the best way to discover something new is to start wandering.

Clubbing starts late in Berlin, and many people say not to bother before 1am. If you manage to stay awake until they start getting lively, you have an excellent choice of places to go. No matter what sort of music you like, you’ll discover a club that suits your tastes. For a more unusual clubbing experience, head to one of the events hosted in old buildings. For example, you can go to the Clärchens Ballhaus ballroom or the Salon Zur Wilden Renate, in an old mansion. If you’re planning to stay up until sunrise, head to Watergate, watching the sun come up over the river is my favourite memory of turning 26 in Berlin.

Arts and Culture

Of course, you may prefer a more refined evening, instead of one of drinking and dancing. If you would rather go to the theatre, see an opera or watch a symphony, you won’t be disappointed. There’s the Berlin Philharmonic, as well as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester. For opera, try the Deutsche Oper or the Staatsoper.

There’s something for everyone among Berlin’s nightlife. Whatever you choose to do, plan to stay up late to enjoy the city to its full potential.
