Diving Bocas Del Toro

Diving Bocas Del Toro: An Adults Playground

Bocas Del Toro is a really lively place with plenty to do, as well as scuba dive. Before diving Bocas Del Toro we were warned that visibility was not great as several rivers feed into this area, which kick up silt reducing the visibility to around 8-10m. We heard that the trade winds die down in September and October making a larger number of sites accessible and improving visibility. We chose to dive with the “The Dutch Pirate” dive center which was a nice family run shop, who have been running a dive shop in the area for many years.

We only did a couple of dives here because we knew the quality wouldn’t be worth spending too much money on, the first was a wreck dive of a little fishing boat. There was plant life growing on the wreck and lots of caterpillars and crabs. This was our first dive where we started to pay attention to the smaller details, this being our 19 and 20th dives, so the lack of visibility didn’t faze us much. The highlights were a seahorse and toadfish, as we hadn’t seen either before.
