Sparkling Waterfalls, Puerto Viejo

After lazing around being beach bums we thought it was about time we went and saw some of the sites. The very south of Costa Rica is mainly jungle but there are a few things to do, so we organised a tour guide to take us to the ‘Sparkling Waterfall’. It was a nice way to cool off in the midday heat after trekking for around 20 – 30 minutes to get there. The scenery was beautiful and we spotted loads of red frogs on the way, which despite their cuteness, are actually poison-dart frogs. They’re native to the area and mustn’t be touched, although you’ll often get local kids coming up to you with one wrapped in a leaf, which they use as a tool for begging.
