Travel on a budget so you can travel for longer

Travelling is an exhilarating and liberating experience. However, it can turn out to be an expensive affair if you are not smart with your travel decisions. We have a few tips that will help you travel on a budget so you can stretch your holiday by a few more days…

1.Stay at a hostel

Cut the cost of travelling by choosing to stay in a hostel as against a hotel. If hostels aren’t your ideal choice, make sure you choose a chain of low budget hotels that will not burn a hole in your pocket. Off late, however, there are plenty of hostels resembling contemporary boutique hotels that offer good value for money.

2. Avoid unnecessary shopping

Indulging in needless shopping may lead to a situation of cash crunch – one that you’d rather avoid. Make sure you pick souvenirs and other essentials from certified stores where you can buy them for a reasonable price. Also, speaking in the local language can help attract better deals.

3. Travel in non-peak seasons

If you wish to minimise your cost of travel, try to make your travel plans during non-peak seasons. Also, be careful to book your tickets on weekdays instead of weekends and not to book around the holiday season when prices usually surge. Generally, you are bound to get good deals during the non-peak season.

4.Eat like a local

While travelling, make sure you experiment with local cuisines. These meals are usually available at reasonable rates and are fresher and better to taste. Alternately, a meal at a mid-sized restaurant serving international cuisine will easily cost you much more.

5.Do your research

It is advisable that you carry out detailed research before venturing on a trip to any destination. Equip yourself with maps, important numbers, and other essentials instead of spending in international currency on these. Acquaint yourself with the planned destination beforehand and you will find it easier to spend less.

6. Choose inexpensive and reliable services

Whenever possible, make sure you have researched and opted for reliable service providers that are reasonably priced and trustworthy. A simple example would be the Car hires from Firefly that can be hired at economical rates.

Great tips! Definitely need to sort myself out with no 2) – I’m always thinking “meh, I doubt I’ll ever come here again so I’d better just pick it up now”, sigh!
